Firefighter Reserve Program
The Arkansas City Fire-EMS Firefighter Reserve Program provides a pool of competent, well-trained personnel to supplement staffing levels at times of extreme emergency. Its top priorities are to increase firefighter safety and to enhance ACFD response capabilities for the City of Arkansas City and Rural Fire District 5.
Recruitment and Qualifications
highly motivated individuals who desire to provide quality emergency services and a dedicated commitment to the citizens of our community. All reserve personnel shall meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Be a Citizen of the United States
- Be at least (18) years of age
- Have a high school diploma or GED
- Possess a valid driver’s license
- Pass the ACFD physical agility test
- Participate in an oral interview
- Shall live within 20 miles driving distance of Arkansas City
- Complete the standard application
Successful applicants will receive an invitation letter to join the Arkansas City Fire-EMS Department Reserve Program upon meeting all the eligibility requirements listed above. At that time, they will be required to provide a drug and alcohol screening and a physical contingencies test,” Evinger said.
Once all requirements have been met, interested individuals will begin obtaining ACFD station uniform and Personal Protective Equipment for firefighting, a notebook containing a study guide for the Reserve Program, and participation in scheduled ride-out times while waiting for the next opening in the Fire Academy through Cowley College.
All participants in the Firefighter Reserve Program will be expected to attend monthly meetings/training and participate in station staffing for a minimum of 12 hours per month. Reserves also participate in other activities, such as the MDA Boot Drive, Fire Prevention Week, EMS Week, Fireworks standbys, parades, and other activities that may come up.
Reserves must obtain Firefighter I certification within the first year in the Reserve Program.
Additional Information
EMT Certification is not required to be a Reserve but is encouraged. If you plan on becoming a full-time member of ACFD, you will need this certification.
Firefighter I and Hazmat Awareness are required to be a Reserve, if you plan on becoming a full- member of ACFD, you will need Firefighter I & II and Hazmat Operations.
