Community Spirit Award Committee

The Community Spirit Award Committee was created in 2017 by Resolution No. 2017-09-3126, to inherit from the defunct Human Relations Commission the mission of annually awarding a winner of the Joe B. Avery Community Spirit Award. 

This award is bestowed upon an Arkansas City resident who displays the values of community spirit and diversity, as evidenced by its namesake, the late Joe Avery. This committee also may make recommendations for a new quarterly to bimonthly award to replace the Community Cornerstone Award.

Consisting of at least five (5) members are appointed by the Mayor with the consent of the Board of City Commissioners. Terms are three (3) years long.
