During the Tuesday, Dec. 20, City Commissioner meeting, Patrick Shook was sworn in as an officer to the Arkansas City Police Department.

"We wholeheartedly welcome Officer Shook into our family at the Arkansas City Police Department," Police Chief Eric Burr said.

Officer Shook joined ACPD after serving as a corrections officer at the Cowley County Jail for about two years.

Shook is a veteran who served in the Army from 1988 to 1994 as a military police officer. During his enlistment, Shook received several awards, including the Army Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Sharpshooter Badge 9mm Pistol, Marksman Badge 45 caliber Pistol, and the Army Lapel Button.
