ACPD Arrest Suspect

Arkansas City Police Department arrested a male concerning an incident on April 21, 2023, at Dollar General, 401 W. Madison Ave., Arkansas City.

A police officer was dispatched to Dollar General at 8:20 a.m. for a shoplifting report. Upon arrival, the officer located a male suspect, who was identified as Michael Anthony Byrd, age 24, of Arkansas City. 

Once confronted, Byrd attempted to flee, and a physical altercation with the officer ensued. Byrd escaped the officer but was arrested at 3:02 p.m. on April 21, 2023, at 1016 N. 9th St. in Arkansas City. 

Byrd now faces charges of theft, two counts of battery on a law enforcement officer, four counts of assault on a law enforcement officer, two counts of interference with a law enforcement officer, criminal damage to property, fleeing and eluding, and driving while suspended.

No bond has been set for Byrd since he had two previous active warrants through Cowley County District Court for a probation violation and a bond violation.
