Traffic Diversions Announced For Wide Load Trucks

The Arkansas City Police Department is announcing traffic diversions for wide-load trucks in connection with the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) bridge repair project on U.S. 77 over a railroad track on the bypass.

The project, which began on Monday, August 26, 2024, is expected to be completed by December 30, 2024. During this time, traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction. Motorists are urged to slow down and exercise caution in the work zone.

To address access issues at the construction site, there will be occasions when lighter wide load trucks will be permitted to use Summit Street as an alternative route. However, this adjustment is strictly for wide loads only.

"We will continue to enforce truck route violations for regular semis, particularly cattle trucks," said Police Chief Jim Holloway.
