ACPD Arrest 41-year-old male

Arkansas City Police Department arrested a 41-year-old male on May 31, 2023, in the 700 Block of North B Street for residential burglary.

At 11:09 a.m. on May 31, 2023, a report was made that an individual kicked in the door of a residence in the 600 Block of North C Street and burglarized the residence. The items reported to be stolen were a Smith and Wesson .30 caliber handgun and a cell phone.

While completing a door-to-door neighborhood canvas in search of witnesses, officers were informed that a citizen in the area had called dispatch to report they had footage on their home security camera of an individual running from the location of the burglary.

Officers acquired a suspect description from the camera and a direction of travel. When checking the area, officers contacted numerous homeowners and were able to narrow down where the suspect could be located.

Loren Jacob Johnson of Arkansas City was located inside a garage in the 700 Block of North B Street. Johnson matched the suspect's description that was seen on the civilian's cameras fleeing the earlier burglary location. The items reported missing from the burglary were found in the garage.

Johnson was arrested on charges of burglary, theft of a firearm, theft, criminal damage to property, and criminal possession of a firearm. Johnson is being held in the Cowley County Jail on a $75,000 bond.

"The cooperation we received from people in the community made all the difference in this investigation. We appreciate all the help provided by those living in this neighborhood. This is a prime example of how working together can have positive outcomes," said Police Chief Eric Burr. "I am also very proud of the work the officers put into this situation to solve this case quickly. They did all the right things to put themselves in a position to take a suspect into custody safely and return stolen property."

A court of law determines a suspect's guilt or innocence.
